GlyceRX: The Next Generation in Biodiesel Dry Wash Technology

 GlyceRX Specifications Sheet

GlyceRX Presentation: The Future of Dry Wash

Introduction:

GlyceRX™ is a chemically inert adsorptive media, designed for ease of use and landfill disposal. This product is engineered for optimal purification efficiency, attracting water soluble compounds, glycerin, soaps, glycerides and solids. The media will also adsorb excess methanol from the matrix although we recommend removal of the methanol PRIOR to the GlyceRX™ process. This ensures the longest bed life possible for the media.

Fast Facts:

• GlyceRX™ was designed specifically to meet the ASTM and EN specifications

• Ease of Use – GlyceRX™ is easy in – easy out. No more filter press, dusty loading or messy resins to handle while eliminating the inconsistencies of cellulose and other organic processes.

• Feedstock Flexibility – Tests have show GlyceRX™ works equally well within a full range of biodiesel feedstock, from soy through yellow grease.

• Low Cost Solution – GlyceRX™ has been designed to keep treatment costs low. For typical applications, treatment cost estimates are between $0.03 and $0.04 per gallon of biodiesel processed.

The GlyceRX™ System:

In existing systems, GlyceRX™ media can be housed in equipment once used for dry wash including resin towers, other dry wash media tanks and activated carbon vessels. For new systems, GlyceRX™ we offer a range of filter housings, including both single and dual vessel systems ranging in size from 5 GPM, based on our K9 housings up to 225 GPM, based on a carbon steel, lined vessel. This range allows the user to select the most economical solution for their operation. For large scale applications ranging from 40 to 225 ,GPM we offer carbon steel vessels with biofuel compatible lining, elliptical man-ways of 18” x 14” located on top of tank for easy access and. legs and fork channels.

Test System:

Since there exists a wide variety of processing systems in the biodiesel industry, coupled with an even wider array of feedstock types and quality, Schroeder Biofuels developed a trial sized GlyceRX™ system, DS-100 for on-site validation prior to full size system installation. The system is a drum style tower system capable of holding 11 cubic feet of GlyceRX™ media or 500 pounds. The system is designed with a 1” FNPT inlet and outlet and PVC internals. The system arrives filled with GlyceRX™ and ready to install. The vessel is made of 17-gauge carbon steel and is triple lined specifically for biodiesel production. The system will operate up to 6 PSI and 120 degrees F. It is recommended that the system be held under 100 F and 5 PSI.

Additional Information:
Over the past decade Glycerol removal has evolved through a water washing, centrifugal separation, talc form a filter cake and the use of cellulose. While all methods offered varying degrees of success, all have serious drawbacks, dust, inconvenience or capital equipment costs, that kept them from becoming the industry mainstay.

Until now, dry-wash technology lacked the following attributes:
          Consistent Performance
          Ease of Use
          Feedstock flexibility
          Process flexibility
          Low Cost
GlyceRX Provides:
          Consistent Performance:
Designed as a deep bed media, Glycerx ensures long contact times and consistent biodiesel quality.
Due to its high surface area, Glycerx has an average treatment capacity nearly three times that of traditional media.
          Ease of Use:
Glycerx is compatible with traditional media filters and can be a direct replacement for resins or specialty dry wash media.
Glycerx can be housed in existing resin towers or media vessels lowering start up cost.
Dexter Biodiesel Solutions can provide vessels ranging in size from 5 to 400 GPM
          Feedstock Flexibility:
When tested with range of feedstock, Glycerx was found to have no significant degradation even when using lower quality yellow grease or chicken fat.
Glycerx smoothes out the inconsistencies associated with both the process and the feedstock by removing polar compounds from a non-polar matrix or host.
Glycerol, soaps and residual methanol are all water soluble compounds – polar, while methyl esters are not water soluble – non polar.
          Think oil and water.

          Process Flexibility
Since the system is a flow-through system, it can be implemented in range of ways; in parallel, in series, or a combination of the two.
Glycerx was designed specifically to meet the needs of the widest range of biodiesel producers.
Glycerx is based on a proprietary adsorption media that is surface modified to enhance glycerin, glyceride, catalyst and soap removal efficiency.
Glycerx is a synthetic and inert adsorptive media. It has none of the inconsistencies associated with organic products. Once spent, Glycerx can be land filled for disposal.
In deep packed bed applications, Glycerx offers the equivalent of 10 micron filtration
Glycerx is available in convenient bulk packaging ranging from 50 pound plastic bags to container lots and super sacks.
Glycerx media can be housed in existing equipment used for dry wash including resin towers, other dry wash media tanks and activated carbon vessels minimizing conversion and start-up costs.
Glycerx, when used prior to ColdClear, provides a cohesive system that efficiently removes non-polar compounds as well as removal of crystallization precursors from the diesel fuel.
Schroeder Biofuels offers the technology to produce the highest quality biodiesel possible.
          Why Burn Money?
Glycerx was specifically designed to keep utilization costs low with minimal capital investment and cost effective treatment.
Current treatment cost estimates are in the $0.03 per gallon of biodiesel.
Testing indicates that one pound of Glycerx will conservatively treat about 90 gallons of bio diesel – with some variations related to feedstock and process.
